Karine Caunes

Karine Caunes is CAIDP’s Global Program Director, one of its board members, and the head of its Global Academic Network. She is in charge of the AI & Democratic Values Index which assesses the public policies of 80 countries, including 24 European ones. She was CAIDP lead-negotiator during the Council of Europe Committee on AI’s work on the Convention on AI, Democracy and the Rule of Law.  She is also the Editor-in-Chief of the European Law Journal (ELJ), a renowned academic journal. She has taught and performed professional training in AI law and policy, EU law and policy, including in the field of data protection law, fundamental rights, disability, asylum and migration at many institutions in Europe and in the US. Karine has published extensively in these fields. She has participated in EU and nationally-funded research projects and has been advising international, European and national institutions. She holds a PhD in EU and comparative law from the European University Institute, was Jean Monnet Research Fellow within the Center for International and Regional Economic Law & Justice at NYU and visiting Scholar at Columbia Law School.
